Frequently Asked Questions

  • We are virtual therapists, meaning we only offer online sessions at this time. Often we hear that people prefer in person sessions, which is valid. But we also encourage people to focus on finding a therapist that is a good fit for you, and giving virtual a try even if it doesn’t seem like something you would like. Virtual sessions are much more convenient for scheduling, and easier to accommodate than most people think. We often see people while they are sitting in their parked car, sitting on the couch in their living room, in their office on their lunch break, really anywhere that has an internet connection for a computer or phone. We are able to see anybody across the state of Michigan from the comfort of each of our homes.

  • We will send you a secure, confidential link through our medical record system where we can each access an easy-to-use video portal. Once we are both logged into the video session, there is no difference from therapy that is done in a traditional office setting to the therapy we will do virtually.

  • Not at this time, we are 100% virtual.

  • We are an in-network provider with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Blue Care Network, and Priority Health. Anybody with coverage with these carriers should reach out as coverage and costs look different for each person. We are happy to look up your coverage and let you know what your out-of-pocket costs would be before we get scheduled. We want to make sure everybody is aware of all potential costs. We know that therapy can be a big financial investment for many people, and support wanting to be fully informed in making the decision to start this care.

If you have an insurance carrier other than BCBS, BCN, or Priority Health, you may be able to utilize your out-of-network benefits. This means that you can pay for your care up front and get some (or all) of your costs reimbursed from your insurance plan. There are several nuances to this process, and these coverage options are different from your in-network coverage so please reach out and we can work through this together.

We also see many people for “private pay” which means we don’t utilize any insurance and simply pay for your sessions yourself for a simple straight-forward cost each session. Our rate for a 55-minute session is $150. We are able to accept HSA payments as a way to help offset these costs as well.

Bottom line - insurance is confusing. If you have any questions about your coverage and costs, please reach out. We are happy to discuss your individual situation.

  • We always tell clients, the first session or two are always the “worst” in that there are a TON of questions. We are trying to get your entire big picture. We are trying to learn all that we can about you to make informed decisions about your care. After the first session or two, sessions become much more conversational. We want you to come in and feel like you are just having a conversation with a friend. Albeit, hopefully a more trained and therapy-informed friend, but therapy shouldn’t be high pressure. We strive to create an environment where therapy feels as natural as any other conversation you have. We are confident that even with this “easy” approach, you will see improvement and growth across all areas for which are you seeking care.

  • Unfortunately, there is no clear cut answer to this. You “need” to be in therapy as long as you are feeling it is beneficial for you. Our hope is that each time we meet you walk away with greater clarity, deeper understanding, and insight on a new path forward. Sometimes this is achieved in a short-term experience with a few sessions, some clients continue to come back year after year. Therapy is as involved and as long as you want it to be. We are happy to talk about timing expectations if you have them.
